I am a game designer as a hobby, and, watching this - truly made me feel inspired, hell I even cried during parts of it. Games personally, are my life, and have been my life for many many years since I was a little kid. Thank you for putting this up, this was truly, one of the best purchases I have ever made on steam.. good movie. nice to see another video game documentry in steam.. Holds much focus on the early years of video games. Gives an in depth review into Atari, outlining its rise and fall. Very refreshing to watch. It sparked some frustrating and angered emotions after learning how Atari attributed to the fall of the company and the video game crash in the early 80's. Lessons can be learned for everyone by watching this piece of film.. As someone who enjoys both videogames and history, this movie was tailor made for me. I've read several books on the subject, but getting to hear from the folks who actually lived the story added another dimension. If you have no interest in why videogames are the way they are and why the industry is the way it is, then I'd avoid this movie. But if you are curious about (or if you remember) Pong, Pac-man, Donkey Kong and of course ET, then this is a great watch. This is just the first part of the story as it covers the birth of video games and then the rise and crash of the classic cartridges system of Atari. There is certainly room for several more movies to get us anywhere close to today. The style in general is to let the featured actors of the industry speak for themselves. The interviews are cleverly interwoven so that it feels like a narrative history without much actual narration. The editing is exceptional.. A really interesting history of the beginnings of Atari and early videogame design, straight from the mouth of the men & women who were actually involved. A must see for any true fan of video games.. This documentary is well done and I really enjoyed hearing the story from the perspective of the engineers, designers and people who grew up playing what they made. I managed to meet a few of these people during my career and for Christmas my wife bought me the Arcade1UP Atari Deluxe edition that has games featured in the documentary. It was really nice to watch this, replay some of the games I grew up with and understand where the industry I work in came from. Thank you to Lighthouse, their production team for doing this and Devolver for publishing it.. It is important history.. It is a good documentary, but i also question a few things about it.It is focused on the rise and fall of atari, which was the fastest growing company in the history of USA. But it fell just as quick later on, only to pass on the stick to other companies in the business. Especially Nintendo, now nintendo is hardly ever mentioned in this documentary. They do however talk about magnvox odyssey and odyssey 2, which i personally owned myself. But the documentary seem to turn it's shift into how fantastic activision is, which was a company started by some people that left atari back in the day. And they were so much better at coding, had so much better games, they were so much better at everything. Well, this might be true, some of the old games by activision is really good. But at the same time, there were a big industry growing with many contenders, many good games made by many different developers and companies that is hardly mentioned in this documentary, but activision get their money's worth big time. And this, i do question. Did Activision pay for this documentary?Today Activision Blizzard is the biggest game production company in the world. And they are known both for making good games and spew out sequels every single year, only to make more money. Well nothing wrong in that, because people buy it.But they are portayed quite a bit in this documentary, without any of the competition being mentioned, exept companies that does not exist or mean anything anymore. Which i find to be sucpicious.Other than that it was an overall good documentary, and i recommend it.. 8/10Interesting and fun!. Nothings changed. Corporates kill inovation and make unhappy employees. Activison now, EA.....Great insight to the early video game industry. I was there to witness it :)
